Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial Quarters are featured in a new numismatic product about to be released by the United States Mint.
The 2013 Perry’s Victory Quarters Three-Coin Set is scheduled to be issued by the U.S. Mint beginning at Noon (Eastern) on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Pricing of the set is $9.95, plus the U.S. Mint’s standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order.
Found in it are three collector-grade versions of the quarter struck with a reverse emblematic of the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial located in the state of Ohio. These three coins include:
- 2013-P Perry’s Victory quarter in uncirculated quality
- 2013-D Perry’s Victory quarter in uncirculated quality
- 2013-S Perry’s Victory quarter in proof quality
All three quarter-dollars are attached to a display card. The card includes a photographic image of the memorial on the front along with brief information on the back about the site, the coins and the U.S. Mint’s certificate of authenticity.
The 2013-P Perry’s Victory Quarter was struck at the U.S. Mint’s facility in Philadelphia, the 2013-D struck in Denver and the 2013-S in San Francisco. Each bears the appropriate mintmark.
As mentioned, these are collector versions of the Perry’s Victory Quarters. They differ in finish and appearance from the circulation quality quarters which are issued for general commerce. (Read about those here.) For instance, the uncirculated versions are struck multiple times typically resulting in much finer detail. As for the proof quality coins, they are struck using specially treated and polished blanks and dies, resulting in a coin with frosted foregrounds and a mirror-like background.
2013 Releases
Perry’s Victory Quarters are the second of five 2013-dated releases of the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The series debuted in 2010 and features five new releases annually, each offering a unique reverse design emblematic of a different national park or national site of interest. One site was chosen from each state, the District of Columbia and the five U.S. Territories to be included in the program. Most sites happen to be national parks. (See the site’s home page for links to all the parks and sites honored.)
Coin Designs
Shown on the reverse of the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial Quarter is a design emblematic of the memorial found in the state of Ohio. It depicts the statue of Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry with the Peace Memorial located in the distance. Inscriptions on the reverse include PERRY’S VICTORY, OHIO, 2013, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse was designed and executed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart.
All America the Beautiful Quarters contain the same obverse portrait of George Washington, by John Flanagan. Obverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.
