Silver versions of all five 2014 National Park Quarters will be available from the United States Mint in its fifth annual America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set.
Released Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 12 Noon ET, each National Park Silver Quarter is composed from 90% silver, struck in proof quality, and come from the US Mint facility in San Francisco, California.
The 2014 National Park Quarters in this proof set bear the "S" mint mark of San Francisco, and broken out they are:
- 2014 Great Smoky Mountains National Park Quarter
- 2014 Shenandoah National Park Quarter
- 2014 Arches National Park Quarter
- 2014 Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarter
- 2014 Everglades National Park Quarter
All five silver quarters are displayed in a protective clear plastic lens framed by a black mat board and placed within colorful outer packaging. Silver coins are brighter and slightly whiter in color than clad ones, so the black mat provides a stark contrast.
The bureau is selling this product for $31.95, the same price as last year’s set which remains available, but pricing is subject to change. In fact, last year’s proof set opened at $41.95. The US Mint changes prices of precious metals products when market prices move significantly. At this time, silver is running a little more than $20 an ounce, and with the proof set having a total silver weight of 0.904 ounces, its premium is about $13.60. The Mint will monitor silver prices and will keep the set’s price tag above its melt value.
When released, orders for the proof set may be made via the Internet on the US Mint’s online catalog at the Mint’s annual coin sets page and also by phone at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). There will be a $4.95 shipping and handling fee added to all domestic orders. No household limits or mintage limits are in place.
Another way to purchase the 2014 National Park Silver Quarters is through the Mint’s Online Subscription Program. A special promotion allows a 10 percent discount on subscription orders for this set, which reduces the subscription-only price to $28.75. According to the program’s web page, the discount applies to all sets purchased through both new and existing subscriptions.
Future sets to feature all 2013 quarters will be released by the US Mint throughout the year. Each one varies from the next in composition, finish, or accompanying coins. Below is a list with their estimated debut dates.
