On Monday, January 11, the United States Mint will begin sales of its first product of the year that has all five of the 2016-dated quarters.
This product, named the 2016 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set, is made for collectors. The quarters have a proof finish, meaning they have sharp, frosted designs and mirror-like backgrounds. Each has an "S" mintmark denoting their production at the U.S. Mint in San Francisco.
2016 quarters offer reverse designs honoring the following national parks and national sites:
- Shawnee National Forest in Illinois
- Cumberland Gap National Historic Park in Kentucky
- Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia
- Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota
- Fort Moultrie at Fort Sumter National Monument in South Carolina
Quarters of the proof set are placed in a protective plastic lens that is designed to enable easy viewing of both sides of the coins. The lens ships in a decorative box and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Priced at $14.95, the proof set becomes available at noon ET on the 11th. Place an order online using the Mint’s catalog site at catalog.usmint.gov or call 1-888-321-MINT (6468).
Regular 2016 quarters from the Denver Mint and Philadelphia Mint will enter circulation at intervals throughout the year — February for the Shawnee quarter, April for the Cumberland Gap quarter, June for the Harpers Ferry quarter, August for the Theodore Roosevelt National Park quarter and November for the Fort Moultrie quarter.
