On that day at Noon (Eastern Time), 2012 Denali National Park Quarters are released by the United States Mint as part of several different products.

Also on Monday, distribution begins of circulation quality Denali quarters by the Federal Reserve Bank System. These coins, struck at U.S. Mint’s facilities in Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D), will enter circulation via local financial institutions based on commerce needs. They are the ones that eventually make their way into your pocket change.

Finding new quarters can be difficult. Those unwilling to wait for them in change may want to consider one of the many options available directly from the U.S. Mint. These include circulation quality quarters also from Philadelphia and Denver as well as coins struck at the U.S. Mint’s facility in San Francisco (S).

It should be noted that while San Francisco minted Denali National Park Quarters are struck in circulation quality, they are not released into general circulation unlike their P and D counterparts. These quarters are produced solely for coin collectors.

Product options available on Monday from the U.S. Mint that contain Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco struck circulation quality quarters include:

  • Denali Quarter 40-coin Rolls, San Francisco, for $18.95
  • Denali Quarter 100-coin Bags, San Francisco, for $34.95
  • Denali Quarter 100-coin Bags, Philadelphia, for $34.95
  • Denali Quarter 100-coin Bags, Denver, for $34.95
  • Denali National Park Quarters Two-Roll Sets, (40 P & 40 D), for $32.95

Designs Featured on Denali National Park Quarters

The reverse of the quarter depicts a design emblematic of Denali National Park of Alaska. This design shows the image of a Dall Sheep with a rising Mount McKinley pictured off in the distance. The design was completed by AIP Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz. Included inscriptions are DENALI, ALASKA, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

A portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States, is found on the obverse of the coin. The portrait was originally completed by John Flanagan and has been seen on circulating quarters since 1932, including all of the America the Beautiful related coins. Obverse inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.
