Two United States Mint 2010 silver proof sets which include national site and national park quarters are temporarily unavailable.
Last year’s silver proof sets are still listed in the Mint’s online store, but a statement in red font by each of the products says ‘This product is temporarily unavailable‘. No further information is provided.
On Monday, April 4, 2011 at 12 noon Eastern Time, the United States Mint will begin selling 100-coin bags and two-roll sets of the 2011 Glacier National Park Quarter. For collectors, rolls and bags of new quarters are fairly popular not only because the coins are part of a series, but also because they offer a first chance to receive and look at new coins long before they make their way into every day circulation.
The United States Mint has announced official launch ceremony details for the next two coins in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program– the Glacier National Park Quarter honoring the site in Montana and the Olympic National Park Quarter honoring the site in Washington.
These two quarter are but two of the five scheduled to be released by the US Mint this year under the program which debuted just last year. The series features reverse designs emblematic of selected sites of national interest from around the United States and its territories. Coin collectors grabbed a substantial amount of newly released 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Sets, according to sales figures released by the United States Mint this week.
The 2011 Quarters Proof Set sales debut was 53,944, although that was lower than last year’s issue which totaled 75,558 over the same amount of days. The debuting sales totals cover a period of time between their release on a Thursday to the following Sunday. The United States Mint on Friday implemented price increases on three proof sets that include national site and national park quarters composed of 90 percent silver.
The US Mint raised their prices because silver has risen substantially in March, and it did not want to be in a position where the melt values of the coins within the sets exceeded what it was charging for them.
