Collectors anxious to get all five of the new 2011 quarters will have an opportunity on Thursday, March 17, at 12 noon Eastern Time.
The United States Mint is issuing the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set, which contains collectible proof versions of all five quarter-dollars minted for the year. They include the:
- 2011-S Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter
- 2011-S Glacier National Park Quarter
- 2011-S Olympic National Park Quarter
- 2011-S Vicksburg National Military Park Quarter
- 2011-S Chickasaw National Recreation Area Quarter
The set will cost $14.95 and can be ordered at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog and 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing and speech-impaired customers may call 1-888-321-MINT (6468). As usual, the US Mint will add a $4.95 shipping and handling fee to all domestic orders.
The coins in the proof set are minted in San Francisco and will bear the “S” mint mark. They will feature a brilliant finish with a sharp relief and a mirror-like background. They are sealed in a protective lens and the packaging will include a Certificate of Authenticity.
The 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set is the second one in the series. The first one launched on May 13, 2010, and it celebrated the quarters honoring Hot Springs National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Mount Hood National Forest.
Most likely, there will be at least eleven similar proof sets in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, assuming the US Mint will continue to offer them year after year. In all, 56 quarters are scheduled to be released over 12 years, with each coin depicting a national park or national site in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the five American territories. The program is expected to wrap up in 2021 when the last quarter, the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site Quarter, launches.
