Proof quarters, made especially for collectors, are shinier and sharper than those available in circulation

These sets are issued annually and are always the Mint’s most popular multi-coin product.

The 2014 US Mint Proof Set goes on sale at noon ET on March 25, 2014 for $31.95. Those who subscribe now to receive it automatically can save 10%. More information about the Mint’s subscription option is offered later in this article. The next few sentences provide some details about this year’s annual clad Proof Set.

First, the 2014 National Park Quarters in it are the same as those within the U.S. Mint-branded 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set that launched on January 7, 2014 for $14.95. The difference is that the clad 2014 US Mint Proof Set also has proofs of the other coins struck by the U.S. Mint for this year. In total, it has 14 proof coins produced at the San Francisco Mint with each carrying an "S" mint mark.

Here is a complete breakdown of the coins by denomination within the 2014 US Mint Proof Set:

  • 2014 Lincoln cent
  • 2014 Jefferson nickel
  • 2014 Roosevelt dime
  • The five 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters with reverse designs honoring Great Smoky Mountains National Park of Tennessee, Shenandoah National Park of Virginia, Arches National Park of Utah, Great Sand Dunes National Park of Colorado, and Everglades National Park of Florida
  • 2014 Kennedy half-dollar
  • The four 2014 Presidential $1 Coins with obverse designs honoring Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, and Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • 2014 Native American $1 Coin with a reverse design depicting a Native American man offering a pipe, while his wife offers provisions of fish, corn, roots, and gourds – a theme commemorating native hospitality ensuring the success of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Collectors like proof coins as they have mirror-like background with frosted designs. The dies that make the coins are specially polished as are the coin blanks (metal discs) for them. The coins are also pressed more than once to offer sharper detail.
