Today, June 11, 2012, Acadia National Park Quarters made their debut in American circulation and the United States Mint began selling rolls and bags containing them. Tomorrow, June 12, 2012, the U.S. Mint will also release a special three coin set which features different numismatic versions of the quarter.

News was first revealed this week that the United States Mint would produce these type of coins at the San Francisco Mint — a facility which normally strikes only collector quality coins.
This week the United States Mint has confirmed that it is producing and developing numismatic products with circulation quality 2012-S quarters that are manufactured at the San Francisco Mint.
2012 America the Beautiful Quarters
There are two unique aspects to this development. First, as these quarters will be produced for numismatic or collector sale, they will not be released into circulation for use in daily commerce like pennies, nickels, dimes and other quarters. After entering circulation on April 2, Chaco Culture National Historical Park quarters will get an official introduction on Thursday, April 26, 2012, in the form of a ceremonial launch. A coin forum the night prior to the event will also be conducted, the United States Mint announced Tuesday.
Available Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 12:00 Noon ET is the next United States Mint product featuring this year’s quarters, the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Set.

With a price tag of $9.95, the set is $5 cheaper than past 2010- and 2011-dated releases, having benefited from United States Mint cost savings that have been applied to several America the Beautiful Quarter and Presidential $1 Coin products which get released annually.

Today, March 14, 2012 the United States Mint and the U.S. National Forest System hosted a public launch ceremony for the El Yunque National Forest Quarter.

Treasurer of the United States, Rosie Rios, spoke during ceremony that was held at the El Portal Rain Forest Visitor Center, inside the national forest located in Puerto Rico.
"El Yunque National Forest is a perfect selection for the America the Beautiful Quarters Program," said Treasurer Rios. "As Americans use this new quarter, they will connect to the stories of the endangered Puerto Rican parrot, the magnificent effort you are making to rescue this beautiful bird from extinction, and the biodiverse national treasure that is its home — El Yunque National Forest."
