The El Yunque quarter is the first in 2012 and the eleventh in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program that started in 2010. Its design on its reverse features the Coqui tree frog and a Puerto Rican parrot in a tropical setting. The designer was Gary Whitley and the engraver was Michael Gaudioso.
Prices for the new products have been marked lower than last year’s issues. Instead of being $49.95, 100-coin bags of the El Yunque National Forest Quarters are each $34.95, and the two-roll sets are $32.95 instead of $39.95. The main reasons for the lower prices were the result of the U.S. Mint’s efforts to refine the product costing process and negotiate better prices from its suppliers, the bureau states. These new coins honor the national site in Sulphur, Oklahoma. The reverse design on the Chickasaw quarter features the Lincoln Bridge over Travertine Creek. The limestone bridge, a popular destination within the park, was dedicated in 1909 to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. The coin’s design was created by Donna Weaver and engraved by Jim Licaretz.
The United States Mint released the latest issue in its America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The reverse on the Vicksburg National Military Park Quarter depicts the gunboat used by the Union Navy during the Civil War, the U.S.S. Cairo. The boat is shown on the Yazoo River. Thomas Cleveland designed the reverse, and it was engraved by Joseph Menna. Inscriptions include VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI,2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Since the coins in the rolls and bags are business strikes and have never been circulated in the public, they have a certain draw for coin collectors. Buyers of the two-roll set will receive one 40 coin roll from the Denver Mint and one 40 coin roll from the Philadelphia Mint. The rolls have special black and white wrapping that says "America the Beautiful Quarters Program," "$10," "Olympic National Park (WA)," and either a "D" for Denver or a "P" for Philadelphia.
