Coin collectors grabbed a substantial amount of newly released 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Sets, according to sales figures released by the United States Mint this week.
The 2011 Quarters Proof Set sales debut was 53,944, although that was lower than last year’s issue which totaled 75,558 over the same amount of days. The debuting sales totals cover a period of time between their release on a Thursday to the following Sunday. The United States Mint on Friday implemented price increases on three proof sets that include national site and national park quarters composed of 90 percent silver.
The US Mint raised their prices because silver has risen substantially in March, and it did not want to be in a position where the melt values of the coins within the sets exceeded what it was charging for them. The United States Mint released the sixth coin of their America the Beautiful Quarters® Program in late January 2011. So far, they produced a total of 61.2 million circulation strikes of the Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter.
The United States Mint on Thursday, March 3, 2011, released their America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set™ for Yosemite National Park. The coins in the Yosemite National Park Quarter Three-Coin Set are similar to the ones that went into circulation in July 2010, but they are instead struck for collectors and offered in three different qualities.

Gettysburg, a town synonymous in many people’s minds with the American Civil War, was the site on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, for the United States Mint’s official public launch ceremony of the Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter.
The brand new quarter features the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument on the reverse side and the familiar portrait of George Washington on the obverse. It is the sixth quarter in the America the Beautiful Quarters® that started last year, and it is the first of its kind to honor a Civil War park.
